Due to the permitting process taking longer than anticipated, planned ADA accesibility improvements at DeMolay Sandspit Park will now be completed in 2027. Previously construction was expected to begin in 2026, resulting in a full closure of the park.
Some of the work that is planned must be done during a dry weather window, which is why the park closure can’t occur during the less busy winter months.
A 2027 closure date has not yet been identified. Information about when the park will close will be shared closer to the construction start date.
The proposed improvements will renovate and improve DeMolay Sandspit Park to fill a gap in services. Planned improvements include new and improved ADA compliant facilities, a new mid-site entrance with ADA parking, ADA compliant access to the beach, accessible picnic areas and ADA compliant restroom facilities.
