Tacoma DeMolay Sandspit Park Shoreline Restoration — Project Overview and Park Closure Information
PenMet Parks is partnering with Pierce Conservation District to implement a shoreline habitat restoration project at Tacoma DeMolay Sandspit Park on Fox Island.
This project will address up to 865 feet of failing bulkhead along the beach using restoration methods that benefit both public shoreline access and the health of Puget Sound. By removing the deteriorating shoreline armor, the project will:
- Reconnect marine riparian vegetation
- Restore natural sediment processes that support the sandspit
- Enhance habitat for critical species, including forage fish, Puget Sound Chinook salmon, and eelgrass beds
- Improve beach access for community recreation
This project will create a healthier shoreline ecosystem that supports both wildlife and people for generations to come.
Park Closure Notice:
To ensure public safety and facilitate construction, Tacoma DeMolay Sandspit Park will be closed to the public for the duration of the restoration project. The park will close on September 22, 2025. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to restore this valuable shoreline area. Please visit another PenMet Parks property during the closure.
