Parks Appreciation Day

Saturday, April 24, 2021 @ 9:00 am 12:00 pm

Parks Appreciation Day is an opportunity for local citizens to help improve their park system and get some productive exercise.

There is no need to pre-register; visit one of the identified sites listed below or drop by your favorite park or school for some cleanup. All activities will be appropriately socially distanced, basically walking in the park with just your personal group.

If you can’t make it to PAD and would like to volunteer on another date, please contact us at [email protected].

This year’s PenMet Parks PAD park sites (and recommended tools) include:

McCormick Forest Park & Rotary Bark Park
10301 Bujacich Rd NW, So. of Sehmel Dr.
Hosted & Distanced: Trail trimming (shears/loppers/pruners) at McCormick and Rotary Bark Park

Narrows Park
1600 Lucille Pkwy NW
Non-hosted, self-guided beach walk and trash pickup (bring trash bag)

Harbor Family Park
70th Ave and 32nd St NW
Non-hosted, self-guided trail brush trimming (bring shears, loppers, pruners)

Sehmel Homestead Park
10123 – 78th Ave. NW Narrows Park
Non-hosted, self-guided trail brush trimming (bring shears, loppers, pruners)

Trail Trimming:

  • Cut whatever sticks out the most into the trail.
  • Please don’t be shy; trim it back.
  • Small clippings can drop onto the trail.
  • Larger pieces should be shoved underneath brush off to the side (please do not throw clippings on top).

Volunteers should wear appropriate clothes and shoes for the season, weather, and work. Bring filled, reusable water bottles, gloves, shears, loppers (see site recommendations above)—and be sure to label them.

Most of all, bring your enthusiasm, smiles, and appreciation for our parks. Burn a few calories and have some fun, too!

When you’re done, please send an e-mail to [email protected] to let us know what you accomplished, how many people, how many hours, and anything significant you encountered (downed tree, etc.). If you would like to donate tools, contact us, or bring them on the 24th.

Thank you again for your stewardship.

Enjoy a pleasant, productive, and appreciated day at the park on Saturday, April 24th.
