Peninsula Gardens is a 10.6-acre property located at the intersection of Wollochet Drive & Fillmore Drive NW, near Gig Harbor city limits. PenMet Parks acquired it in 2011. The property was formerly a commercial garden center.
A Master Plan for the site was developed in 2024 after extensive community outreach and input. The Board of Park Commissioners adopted the plan January 7, 2025. Park design and development began in 2025.
PenMet Parks’ goal with this project is to fill a gap in the service area and provide a level of service to the neighboring community by developing an accessible park with many of the top desired amenities identified in the 2023 Parks Recreation and Open Space Plan and the Peninsula Gardens Master Plan.
The Peninsula Gardens Master Plan is the conceptual basis for the park design.
PenGardens Parkland Development
In July 2025 all structures were removed and the site graded. Next steps include finalizing design documents for permitting application and construction. Construction is expected to continue through 2027. Amenities planned for the site align with the preferred alternatives from the 2025 Master Plan.

Funding Breakdown
In 2025 PenMet Parks was awarded a $500,000 Recreation Conservation Office grant to help fund part of the project. The district is also requesting additional funding from the state Legislature in 2026 to help with the phase 1 construction of the ADA-accessible playgrounds and restroom facility.

Community Outreach
A series of public meetings were held in 2024 at PenMet Parks District Headquarters. Members of the public were invited to learn about the project, share their thoughts and priorities for consideration and inclusion in the adopted site master plan.
