PenMet Parks Recreation Center – Opened July 2025

2524 14th Ave NW, Gig Harbor

The PenMet Parks Recreation Center will be a destination for everyone. We envision families and friends riding their bikes on the Cushman Trail and meeting at the Recreation Center for a soccer game, an enrichment program, or a community event. This inclusive facility will support the well-being of the whole community and will be a place where memorable experiences are created.

With an indoor jogging track, sports courts, indoor turf field, and multiple gathering spaces, it will be more than a recreation facility. It will be a community hub bringing together families, friends, and neighbors of all ages to play, connect, and grow.

Our community identified indoor recreation as a priority in the 2018 Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Plan. After an extensive feasibility process was performed, staff completed a scoping study and determined that the old Performance Golf building and site was the best suited property available to support a Recreation Center.

After engaging the community, reviewing stages of design, completing extensive agency reviews, and finalizing design elements for construction documentation, 100% plans and specifications were completed and submitted to Pierce County for permit review and approval.

On June 5, 2023, Phase II of the project was advertised for bid and on July 10, 2023 PenMet Parks received 6 bids from contractors for the Recreation Center project. The lowest responsive and responsible bidder was Jody Miller Construction from Spanaway, Washington with a bid of $20,700,400.

On August 1, 2023, Jody Miller Construction mobilized equipment and began construction at the site. Experience the time lapse video below showing the entire construction project!

The project opened in July 2025.

We are excited to enjoy the new Recreation Center with all of our community!
