The Peninsula Metropolitan Park District (PenMet Parks) Recreation Center will open to the public on July 1, 2025. The state-of-the-art facility, which is located at 2524 14th Avenue NW, will help meet the growing demand for recreational amenities in our community.
The 58,000 square foot building features an indoor turf field, three multi-purpose courts, an elevated track, flexible spaces for fitness and other activities, and gathering areas. The Recreation Center is part of a 17-acre comprehensive recreation campus that includes an outdoor event lawn/youth soccer field, an 18-hole miniature golf course, and an extension of the Cushman Trail.
“The completion of the Recreation Center realizes our shared vision for an inclusive facility that supports the well-being of the whole community,” said Board of Park Commissioners President Laurel Kingsbury. “The Recreation Center will significantly enhance PenMet Parks’ ability to meet our community’s need for safe and fun recreation that is accessible to all ages and abilities.”
A ribbon cutting ceremony is planned for 5 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17. A family-friendly grand opening celebration featuring activities, music, food, and tours of the Recreation Center is planned for 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 21. More details about these events will be announced soon. Soft opening activities with limited hours and services at the Recreation Center and mini golf course are planned for the month of June.
The Recreation Center is a 58,000 square foot Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certified building. The facility was designed by Barker Rinker Seacat and constructed by Jody Miller Construction. The total project cost for the Recreation Center campus and Cushman Trail extension is $31.6 million, the majority of which has been funded by PenMet Parks district residents. Additional funding support has been provided by the Washington State legislature, a Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program – Trails Category grant administered by the Recreation and Conservation Office, and private philanthropic gifts.

- Indoor walk/jog track
- Two multi-use rooms
- Outdoor event lawn/youth soccer field
- Cushman Trail extension from the 14th Ave. trailhead to 24th St. NW
- Reimagined 18-hole miniature golf course with Pacific Northwest themes
PenMet Parks is a metropolitan park district located in unincorporated Pierce County on the Gig Harbor Peninsula. Formed in 2004, today PenMet Parks currently manages approximately 650 acres of parks and open space and provides hundreds of recreation programs every year for all ages and abilities.
