Seasonal Park Maintenance Worker

Temporary, Full-Time

Salary:  $12.61/hour (2008 Rate) Bargaining Unit:  Non-Represented

Length of Position:  One position is available April through mid-September

Nature of Work:
Performs routine manual labor requiring skill in the operation of hand tools, power tools, and light equipment including riding mowers, small tractors, and their associated attachments.  Typically works independently or as a crew member, under supervision, in the maintenance and preparation of District ball fields and facilities.  Shift hours will vary based upon program and event schedules and will include working on weekends and evenings.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:
Cleans, drags, rakes, chalks, and sets bases for ball field area;
Inspects and cleans parks manually and mechanically of debris and obstructions;
Empties trash cans;
Edges, trims, and maintains planter areas, structures, and pathways;
Inspects and performs routine maintenance to play equipment;
Cleans restrooms;
Mows turf with riding and walk-behind mowers;
Abates graffiti and repairs vandalism; and
Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:  High School graduate or GED.

Experience:
Two years of ball field/park maintenance experience.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of park operations and maintenance procedures;
Knowledge of work hazards and applicable safety precautions;
Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time under varying weather conditions;
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public;
Ability to follow written and/or verbal instruction;
Ability to climb ladders and work at heights on sloped surfaces;
Ability to walk, kneel, stand, and crouch;
Ability to lift objects up to 50 lbs.;
Must be able to hear and speak to exchange information;
Must be able to document park inspections and work performed; and
Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, and light equipment.

Special Requirements:
Successful completion of pre-employment background check;
Valid State Driver's License with proof of satisfactory driving record; and
Non-smoker.

Working Conditions:
Work is primarily performed in an outdoor environment, which may include uneven and unstable walking surfaces, tripping hazards, and inclement weather conditions.  This position requires the ability to walk, kneel, stand, crouch, climb ladders, hear and speak to exchange information, and occasionally lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
